Summary

The lesson narrates the brave story of Major Somnath Sharma during the 1947 Kashmir operations. Though his arm was in a plaster cast, he insisted on leading his company at Badgam. Facing a much larger enemy force, he held his ground with great courage, directed his men and even carried ammunition himself. He kept fighting to defend Srinagar airfield and was killed in action, but his stand helped save the valley. For his supreme sacrifice he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra. His story stands as a shining example of duty, courage and patriotism.
